The S5720S-LI is a next-generation energy-saving gigabit Ethernet switch that provides flexible GE access ports and 10 GE uplink ports. Building on next-generation, high-performance hardware and the Huawei Versatile Routing Platform (VRP), the S5720S-LI supports intelligent stack (iStack), flexible Ethernet networking, and diversified security control. It provides customers with a green, easy-to-manage, easy-to-expand, and cost-effective gigabit to the desktop solution. In addition, Huawei customizes specialized models to meet customer requirements to suit special scenarios.

The models with front power sockets can be installed in the 300 mm deep cabinet. They can be maintained through the front panel, saving space in small equipment rooms.

Flexible Ethernet networking

  • In addition to traditional Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), the S5720S-LI supports Huawei-developed Smart Ethernet Protection (SEP) technology and the latest Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) standard. SEP is a ring protection protocol specific to the Ethernet link layer, and applies to various ring network topologies, such as open ring topology, closed ring topology, and cascading ring topology. This protocol is reliable, easy to maintain, and implements fast protection switching within 50 ms. ERPS is defined in ITU-T G.8032. It implements millisecond-level protection switching based on traditional Ethernet MAC and bridging functions.
  • The S5720S-LI supports Smart Link, which implements backup of uplinks. One S5720S-LI switch can connect to multiple aggregation switches through multiple links, significantly improving reliability of access devices.
  • The S5720S-LI supports Ethernet OAM (IEEE 802.3ah/802.1ag) to fast-detect link faults.

Diversified security control

  • The S5720S-LI supports 802.1x authentication, MAC address authentication, and combined authentication on a per port basis, as well as Portal authentication on a per VLANIF interface basis, and implements dynamic policy delivery (VLAN, QoS, and ACL) to users.
  • The S5720S-LI provides a series of mechanisms to defend against DoS attacks and user-targeted attacks. DoS attacks are targeted at switches and include SYN flood, Land, Smurf, and ICMP flood attacks. User-targeted attacks include bogus DHCP server attacks, IP/MAC address spoofing, DHCP request flood, and changing of the DHCP CHADDR value.
  • The S5720S-LI collects and maintains information about access users, such as IP addresses, MAC addresses, IP address leases, VLAN IDs, and interface numbers in a DHCP snooping binding table. In this way, IP addresses and access interfaces of DHCP users can be tracked. You can specify DHCP snooping trusted and untrusted ports to ensure that users connect only to the authorized DHCP server.
  • The S5720S-LI supports strict ARP learning. This feature prevents ARP spoofing attackers from exhausting ARP entries so that users can connect to the Internet normally.

Easy operation and maintenance

  • The S5720S-LI supports Huawei Easy Operation, a solution that provides zero-touch deployment, replacement of faulty devices without additional configuration, USB-based deployment, batch configuration, and batch remote upgrade. The Easy Operation solution facilitates device deployment, upgrade, service provisioning, and other management and maintenance operations, and also greatly reduces costs of operation and maintenance. The S5720S-LI can be managed and maintained using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) V1, V2, and V3, Command Line Interface (CLI), web-based network management system, or Secure Shell (SSH) V2.0. Additionally, it supports remote network monitoring (RMON), multiple log hosts, port traffic statistics collection, and network quality analysis that helps with network consolidation and reconstruction.
  • EasyDeploy: The Commander collects information about the topology of the client connecting to the Commander and saves client startup information based on the topology. The client can be replaced without configuration. Configuration and scripts can be delivered to the client in batches. In addition, the configuration delivery result can be queried. The Commander can collect and display power consumption on the entire network.
  • The S5720S-LI can use the GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP) to implement dynamic distribution, registration, and propagation of VLAN attributes. GVRP reduces manual configuration workload and ensures correct configuration. Additionally, the S5720S-LI supports MUX VLAN, which involves a principal VLAN and multiple subordinate VLANs. Subordinate VLANs are classified into group VLANs and separate VLANs. Ports in the principal VLAN can communicate with ports in subordinate VLANs. Ports in a subordinate group VLAN can communicate with each other, whereas ports in a subordinate separate VLAN can communicate only with ports in the principal VLAN. The S5720S-LI also supports VLAN Central Management Protocol (VCMP) and VLAN-Based Spanning Tree (VBST) protocol.
  • The models with front power sockets can be installed in a 300 mm deep cabinet, and can be maintained through the front panel. This simplifies operation and maintenance. The cabinets can be placed against the wall or back to back, and is well-suited for shallow cabinets and limited equipment room space.

iStack

  • The S5720S-LI supports intelligent stack (iStack). This technology combines multiple switches into a logical switch. Member switches in a stack implement redundancy backup to improve device reliability and use inter-device link aggregation to improve link reliability. iStack provides high network scalability. You can increase ports, bandwidth, and processing capacity of a stack by simply adding member switches to the stack. iStack also simplifies device configuration and management. After a stack is set up, multiple physical switches are virtualized into one logical device. You can log in to any member switch in the stack to manage all the member switches in the stack. S5720S-LI support electrical ports stacking.

Excellent network traffic analysis

  • The S5720S-LI supports the sFlow function. It uses a method defined in the sFlow standard to sample traffic passing through it and sends sampled traffic to the collector in real time. The collected traffic statistics are used to generate statistical reports, helping enterprises maintain their networks.

Cloud-based management

  • The S5720-LI can work in cloud-based management mode or traditional management based on requirements. The Huawei cloud management platform can be used to perform cloud-based network planning, optimization, monitoring, and management and configure cloud managed devices. A mobile O&M App is also supported.

Huawei S5700-LI Switch

Product overview

The S5700-LI is a next-generation energy-saving gigabit Ethernet switch that provides flexible GE access ports and 10 GE uplink ports. Building on next-generation, high-performance hardware and the Huawei Versatile Routing Platform (VRP), the S5700-LI supports Advanced Hibernation Management (AHM), intelligent stack (iStack), flexible Ethernet networking, and diversified security control. It provides customers with a green, easy-to-manage, easy-to-expand, and cost-effective gigabit to the desktop solution. In addition, Huawei customizes specialized models to meet customer requirements to suit special scenarios.

Huawei S5700-LI-BAT series battery LAN switches (S5700-LI-BAT for short) are the industry’s first switch series to support batteries and provide visualized battery status management. The S5700-LI-BAT can ensure uninterrupted services in environments facing frequent mains power failures at the access layer. Access switches are usually distributed; therefore, it is costly and space-consuming to deploy high-performance Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) for the access switches. Huawei battery LAN switches solve this problem. The use of batteries ensures stable operation of the access layer in the event of mains power failures.

CSFP switches support downlink CSFP ports, and each downlink CSFP port provides bi-directional 2 Gbit/s bandwidth.   • The S5700-LI series smart energy-saving switches reduce power consumption without degrading system performance or user experience. The S5700-LI series uses innovative energy-saving technologies including Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE), port power detection, dynamic CPU frequency adjustment, and device sleep mode. These technologies help reduce power consumption by adjusting power depending on the Up/Down states of links, presence/absence of optical modules, shutdown and undo shutdown operations on ports, and peak and off-peak hours. The S5700-LI series is the industry’s first switch series that supports device sleep mode, and provides three energy saving modes to adapt to different usage scenarios: standard, basic, and deep modes.

Flexible Ethernet networking

  • In addition to traditional Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), the S5700-LI supports Huawei-developed Smart Ethernet Protection (SEP) technology and the latest Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) standard. SEP is a ring protection protocol specific to the Ethernet link layer, and applies to various ring network topologies, such as open ring topology, closed ring topology, and cascading ring topology. This protocol is reliable, easy to maintain, and implements fast protection switching. ERPS is defined in ITU-T G.8032. It implements millisecond-level protection switching based on traditional Ethernet MAC and bridging functions
  • The S5700-LI supports SmartLink, which implements backup of uplinks. One S5700-LI switch can connect to multiple aggregation switches through multiple links, significantly improving reliability of access devices.

Diversified security control

  • The S5700-LI supports 802.1x authentication, MAC address authentication, and combined authentication on a per-port basis, as well as Portal authentication on a per VLANIF interface basis, and implements dynamic policy delivery (VLAN, QoS, and ACL) to users
  • The S5700-LI provides a series of mechanisms to defend against DoS attacks and user-targeted attacks. DoS attacks are targeted at switches and include SYN flood, Land, Smurf, and ICMP flood attacks. User-targeted attacks include bogus DHCP server attacks, IP/MAC address spoofing, DHCP request flood, and changing of the DHCP CHADDR value
  • The S5700-LI collects and maintains information about access users, such as IP addresses, MAC addresses, IP address leases, VLAN IDs, and interface numbers in a DHCP snooping binding table. In this way, IP addresses and access interfaces of DHCP users can be tracked. You can specify DHCP snooping trusted and untrusted ports to ensure that users connect only to the authorized DHCP server
  • The S5700-LI supports strict ARP learning. This feature prevents ARP spoofing attackers from exhausting ARP entries so that users can connect to the Internet normally

Easy operation and maintenance

  • The S5700-LI supports Huawei Easy Operation, a solution that provides zero-touch deployment, replacement of faulty devices without additional configuration, USB-based deployment, batch configuration, and batch remote upgrade. The Easy Operation solution facilitates device deployment, upgrade, service provisioning, and other management and maintenance operations, and also greatly reduces costs of operation and maintenance. The S5700-LI can be managed and maintained using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) V1, V2, and V3, Command Line Interface (CLI), web-based network management system, or Secure Shell (SSH) V2.0. Additionally, it supports remote network monitoring (RMON), multiple log hosts, port traffic statistics collection, and network quality analysis that helps with network consolidation and reconstruction
  • EasyDeploy: The Commander collects information about the topology of the client connecting to the Commander and saves client startup information based on the topology. The client can be replaced without configuration. Configuration and scripts can be delivered to the client in batches. In addition, the configuration delivery result can be queried
  • The Commander can collect and display power consumption on the entire network
  • The S5700-LI can use the GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP) to implement dynamic distribution, registration, and propagation of VLAN attributes. GVRP reduces manual configuration workload and ensures correct configuration. Additionally, the S5700-LI supports MUX VLAN, which involves a principal VLAN and multiple subordinate VLANs. Subordinate VLANs are classified into group VLANs and separate VLANs. Ports in the principal VLAN can communicate with ports in subordinate VLANs. Ports in a subordinate group VLAN can communicate with each other, whereas ports in a subordinate separate VLAN can communicate only with ports in the principal VLAN. The S5700-LI also supports VLAN Central Management Protocol (VCMP) and VLAN-Based Spanning Tree (VBST) protocol

iStack

  • The S5700-LI supports intelligent stack (iStack). This technology combines multiple switches into a logical switch. Member switches in a stack implement redundancy backup to improve device reliability and use inter-device link aggregation to improve link reliability. iStack provides high network scalability. You can increase ports, bandwidth, and processing capacity of a stack by simply adding member switches to the stack. iStack also simplifies device configuration and management. After a stack is set up, multiple physical switches are virtualized into one logical device. You can log in to any member switch in the stack to manage all the member switches in the stack.

Excellent network traffic analysis

  • The S5700-LI supports the sFlow function. It uses a method defined in the sFlow standard to sample traffic passing through it and sends sampled traffic to the collector in real time. The collected traffic statistics are used to generate statistical reports, helping enterprises maintain their networks.

CSFP providing high-density access and increased bandwidth

  • CSFP switches support downlink CSFP ports. Each downlink CSFP port equipped with a CSFP GE optical module and one pair of fibers can provide bi-directional 2 Gbit/s bandwidth, which is two times the bandwidth of standard SFP optical modules. The 24 downlink CSFP ports can provide 48 Gbit/s bandwidth bi-directionally, implementing high-density access (equal to access of 48 standard SFP ports) and saving the cost of deploying fibers and adding optical modules.

Easy O&M with front panel

  • The models with front power sockets can be installed in a 300 mm deep cabinet, and can be maintained through the front panel. This simplifies operation and maintenance. The cabinets can be placed against the wall or back to back, and is well-suited for shallow cabinets and limited equipment room space.

  • The high-speed Ethernet Network Processor (ENP) embedded in the S5720-HI is tailored for Ethernet. The chip’s flexible packet processing and traffic control capabilities can meet current and future service requirements, helping build a highly scalable network.
  • In addition to the capabilities of traditional switches, the S5720-HI series provide fully programmable open interfaces and support user-defined forwarding behaviors. Enterprises can use the open interfaces to develop new protocols and functions independently or jointly with equipment vendors to build campus networks meeting their own needs.
  • The ENP has a fully programmable architecture, on which enterprises can define their own forwarding models, forwarding behaviors, and lookup algorithms. Microcode programmability makes it possible to provide new services within six months, without the need of replacing the hardware. In contrast, traditional ASIC chips use a fixed forwarding architecture and follow a fixed forwarding process. For this reason, new services cannot be provisioned until new hardware is developed to support the services 1 to 3 years later.

Delivering abundant services more agilely

  • The S5720-HI series integrates the AC function with 80 Gbit/s of wireless throughput, so customers do not need to buy independent AC devices or hardware components. An S5720-HI switch can manage up to 1K APs and 16K users, coping with the fast growth of wireless services.
  • With the unified user management function, the S5720-HI authenticates both wired and wireless users, ensuring a consistent user experience no matter whether they are connected to the network through wired or wireless access devices. The unified user management function supports various authentication methods, including 802.1x, MAC address, and Portal authentication, and is capable of managing users based on user groups, domains, and time ranges. These functions visualize user and service management and boost the transformation from device-centered management to user-centered management.

Providing fine-grained network management more agilely

  • The S5720-HI series use the Packet Conservation Algorithm for Internet (iPCA) technology that changes the traditional method of using simulated traffic for fault location. iPCA technology can monitor network quality for any service flow anywhere and anytime, without extra costs. It can detect temporary service interruptions in a very short time and can identify faulty ports accurately. This cutting-edge fault detection technology turns “extensive management” to “fine-grained management.”
  • The S5720-HI using the Super Virtual Fabric (SVF) technology and functions as a parent switch. It can not only virtualize fixed-configuration switches into line cards of a chassis switch, but also vertically virtualize APs as ports of the chassis switch. With this virtualization technology, a physical network with the “Small-sized core/aggregation switches + Access switches + APs” structure can be virtualized into a “super switch”, offering the industry’s simplest network management solution.
  • With the Easy Deploy function, the S5720-HI series manage access switches in a similar way an AC manages APs. In deployment, access switches and APs can go online with zero-touch configuration. In the Easy Deploy solution, the Commander collects topology information about the connected clients and stores the clients’ startup information based on the topology. Clients can be replaced with zero-touch configuration. The Commander can deliver configurations and scripts to clients in batches and query the delivery results. In addition, the Commander can collect and display information about power consumption on the entire network.

Complete VPN Tunnels

  • S5720-HI series switches support the MPLS function and can work as access devices for high-quality enterprise leased lines. The S5720-HI series can connect users in different VPNs and isolate users through multi-instance routing. Users in multiple VPNs connect to a PE through the same physical uplink port on the switch, which lowers a single user’s Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) for network deployment.

Flexible Ethernet networking

  • In addition to traditional Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), the S5720-HI supports Huawei-developed Smart Ethernet Protection (SEP) technology and the latest Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) standard. SEP is a ring protection protocol specific to the Ethernet link layer, and applies to various ring network topologies, such as open ring topology, closed ring topology, and cascading ring topology. This protocol is reliable, easy to maintain, and implements fast protection switching. ERPS is defined in ITU-T G.8032. It implements millisecond-level protection switching based on traditional Ethernet MAC and bridging functions.
  • The S5720-HI supports Smart Link and Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), which implement backup of upstream links. One S5720-HI switch can connect to multiple aggregation switches through multiple links, significantly improving reliability of access devices.

Various security control methods

  • The S5720-HI series support MAC address authentication and 802.1x authentication and implement dynamic delivery of VLAN, QoS, and ACL policies to users. They support port-based 802.1x, MAC address, and hybrid authentications and VLANIF interface-based portal authentication.
  • The S5720-HI provides a series of mechanisms to defend against DoS attacks and user-targeted attacks. DoS attacks are targeted at switches and include SYN flood, Land, Smurf, and ICMP flood attacks. User-targeted attacks include bogus DHCP server attacks, IP/MAC address spoofing, DHCP request flood, and change of the DHCP CHADDR value.
  • The S5720-HI series set up and maintain the DHCP snooping binding tables, and discard the packets that do not match the table entries. Users can specify DHCP snooping trusted ports to ensure that users connect only to the authorized DHCP server.
  • The S5720-HI supports strict ARP learning, which prevents ARP spoofing attackers from exhausting ARP entries.
  • The S5720-HI supports MAC security (MACSec) that enables hop-by-hop secure data transmission. Therefore, the S5720-HI can be applied to scenarios that pose high requirements on data confidentiality, such as government and finance sectors.

Mature IPv6 features

  • The S5720-HI is developed based on the mature, stable VRP and supports IPv4/IPv6 dual stacks, IPv6 routing protocols (RIPng, OSPFv3, BGP4+, and IS-IS for IPv6). With these IPv6 features, the S5720-HI can be deployed on a pure IPv4 network, a pure IPv6 network, or a shared IPv4/IPv6 network, helping realize IPv4-to-IPv6 transition.

The CX600 Metro Services Platform (CX600) is designed with the routing platform to
provide solutions for the carrier-class Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) that features Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC). The solutions provided by the CX600 cover the areas of access, convergence and transmission. CX600s, in general, are deployed at the access and convergence layers of the carrier-class MAN.
Based on distributed hardware forwarding and non-blocking switching technologies, the
CX600 features carrier-class reliability, line speed forwarding capability, a well-designed Quality of Service(QoS) mechanism, strong service-processing capability, and excellent expansibility. In addition to providing competitive Layer 2 services, including Ethernet access and convergence, Ethernet switching, and transmission of Ethernet over Multi-Protocol Label Switching (EoMPLS) services, the CX600 provides diverse Layer 3 (IP) services, such as Internet broadband services, triple play (video, voice, and data) services for individual users as well as IP leased line and IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) services for enterprise users. Based on the carrier-class design, the CX600 supports redundancy backup and hot swapping for all key components including SRUs, SFUs, power supply modules, fan modules, management buses, Monitor buses, and data buses. The CX600 also supports port binding, Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), and Rapid Ring Protection Protocol (RRPP) to ensure continuous service forwarding in the case of link faults. With graceful restart (GR), fast convergence, and key technologies such as Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD), IP Fast Reroute (FRR), Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) FRR, TE FRR, VPN FRR, VLL FRR, the CX600 ensures that services are converged within 50 ms when abnormalities occur, thus ensuring continuous services. In addition, the CX600 supports MPLS OAM, Ethernet OAM, Y.1731, PWE3, and backup protection of service routers. With the preceding features, the CX600 can achieve millisecond- level protection switchover of end-to-end services.For Mobile Backhaul networks, especially the future oriented LTE network, NE40E adopt advanced Hierarchical L3 solution, deploying HVPN the OAM more effective, and it can achieve E-to-E segment by segment fault demarcation and confi rm each IP base station status.

Cooperating with performance management tools such as U2000, NE40E can provide SDH like network OAM, service oriented, intelligent warning, and refi ned positioning. The ISP then check whether the forwarding capacity of the network complies with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) signed with users and locate faults. The ISP does not need to carry out detection on the user side, which greatly decreases maintenance costs.

Extensive Security Features

The CX600 can help operators monitor the network status and protect users against network attacks. The CX600 supports Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) attack defense and BGP session attack defense, and can fl exibly control IP packets as required. In addition, the CX600 supports Generalized TTL Security Mechanism (GTSM) of OSPF and BGP, VPLS and L3VPN traffi c statistics, DHCP snooping, lawful interception and IPSEC to build a secure and controllable network.

Effi cient OAM features

CX600 support Ethernet OAM fault management including: Ethernet in the First Mile OAM (EFM OAM), conforming to IEEE 802.3ah and Connectivity Fault Management OAM (CFM OAM), conforming to IEEE 802.1ag.

Conforming to ITU-T Y.1731, the CX600 supports performance management by inserting the timestamp into 802.1ag LB messages to measure the delay, jitter, and packet loss ratio when the messages are transmitted. In this manner, the CX600 can detect the end-to-end performance of traffi c in a specifi ed time period and on a specifi ed network segment.

For MPLS TP OAM, CX600 can support functions such as Basic connectivity detection, LoopBack(LB), Link Trace (LT), Remote Defect Indication (RDI), AIS, Single-ended frame loss statistics collection and two-ended frame loss statistics collection, detecting One-way frame delay and two-way frame delay, VE interfaces support TP OAM, Dynamic PWs and MS-PWs support TP OAM.

For Mobile Backhaul networks, especially the future oriented LTE network, CX600 adopt advanced Hierarchical L3 solution, deploying HVPN technology, which can guarantee effi ciency, security, and reliability. L3 to edge solution makes the OAM more effective, and it can achieve E-to-E segment by segment fault demarcation and confi rm each IP base station status.

How to configure the modular AR2200 router

The AR2200 router series features a modular chassis with slots that can be configured to meet customer requirements. Choose either the AR2220 or the AR2240 model.

Chassis options

The AR2220 model has two chassis options, one with an AC power supply and one with a DC power supply. All other chassis components are the same.

The AR2240 model has eight chassis options:

  • Main control board SRU40 with AC power supply
  • Main control board SRU40 with DC power supply
  • Main control board SRU80 with AC power supply
  • Main control board SRU80 with DC power supply
  • Main control board SRU100E with AC power supply
  • Main control board SRU100E with DC power supply

Note: A separate fan module is required for all AR2240 chassis

Service cards

After selecting a chassis option, customers can order the router chassis with one of the four available DSP cards and with interface cards that provide the required features.

The optional interface cards include SIC cards, WSIC cards, and XSIC cards. Two SIC slots can be used as one WSIC slot by removing the guide rail and two WSIC slots can be used as one XSIC slot by removing the panel. The DSP card fits into the DSP slot and works with the FXO/FXS/ISDN/VE1 voice card.

Software

Basic software and documentation that supports routing, switching, voice service, and security is included with all models. Licensed software is available to support optional features, such as AC.

Begin by ordering the chassis, control board (AR2240), power supply, and fan module (AR2240). Then select a DSP card (if required), interface modules, any special licenses, and any desired accessories (SD card or USB disk).

Huawei CloudEngine CE5800 series (CE5800 for short) switches are next-generation, high-density Gigabit Ethernet switches designed for data centers and high-end campus networks.
